Greeting Brothers,
The Eta Lambda chapter has continued to excel in every aspect of our Fraternity. In the past month alone, we’ve placed in the top 3 of every philanthropy we’ve participated in. We placed second in Alpha Delta Pi’s Safari Hunt benefiting Ronald McDonald House, Tri Delta’s Flapjacks Fitness & Football benefiting St. Jude’s Children Hospital, and Kappa Delta’s Fall Festival benefiting Richmond Children’s hospital. In Sigma Kappa’s Ultra Violet Nights we placed third in a very competitive philanthropy. Looking to excel his leadership abilities, Brother Dan Lee (’15), elected Director of Scholarship for the Internal Fraternity Council.
Socially, we held a very successful joint social with Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. We had two great parties this past month, an Oktoberfest themed celebration and an awesome Halloween party with aspiring hip hop artist Trey Palms and barstool DJ Palms. Also this past weekend, brothers Johnny Eigenbrood, Reid Ashworth, and Mickey Asmare all became affiliated with the Delta Gamma Sorority as the newest anchormen, proving the ladies love Sigma Chi the most.
Sigma Chi is dominating IFC athletics and is seeking to return the Hokie Grail to its rightful owner. We won both championships thus far, with a 1-0 victory over heated rival PIKE in IFC soccer and a 13-0 shutout for the championship in IFC flag football over Delta Sig.
Our focus on being more involved in the community has made great strides all thanks to our Community Relations Chair Bradley Custer. I sat down with Brad and interviewed him on his recent accomplishments this semester and this is what he had to say, “Community relations chair has been stressful but very rewarding this year. We started off with hokie helpers where 25 guys and I helped freshman move into dorms. We were provided with the equipment to make the move in process that much easier. After that, I was contacted by Jeff Mitchell about a program called Special Spectators. This entailed two brothers, Harrison Weisberger and Robert Wineland, and they escorted a special needs kid before the bowling green game. They got to meet coach Beemer, watch the players warm up, and take a tour of the locker room. Greeks giving back was the next event where we had right around fifty people show up. My group along with others did yard work and mulching. The dance marathon is the last thing I am in charge of this semester. We were unable to create a team for the dance marathon because of father’s weekend. Instead we gathered a group together of about thirty to people to help set up, and we raised 500$ for a sponsorship, which means Sigma Chi is on the dance marathon t-shirt. Between monthly meetings of the town gown, and all the activities to come, I am happy with my decision to be the community relations chair.”
