Huntsman Golf Tournament

The Eta Lambda Chapter hosted it’s 9th annual Sigma Chi Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the Huntsman Cancer Institute on April 14th, 2016. Based out of the University of Utah, the Huntsman Cancer Institute is a center designed to research possible treatments and preventions of cancer.  Jon Huntsman, the founder of the Institute and a prominent Sigma Chi, has devoted his life to finding a cure for cancer.  Already having had cancer twice in his lifetime, Huntsman has since donated $250+ million of his personal wealth to secure the dream of someday finding a cure. Although Sigma Chi’s main national philanthropic organization remains the Children’s Miracle Network, the Huntsman Cancer Institute was added as an additional beneficiary in 2005. With the combined fundraising efforts from the Huntsman Golf Tournament and Derby Days, benefiting Children’s Miracle Network, the brothers of Sigma Chi were able to raise over $33,000 for charity this spring.

Sorority Philanthropy Involvement

Besides our chapter’s involvement in the Children’s Miracle Network, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Relay for Life, we also participate in many local sorority philanthropies.  At Virginia Tech, each sorority typically has a fall or spring philanthropy that benefits their national charity.

We participate in these philanthropies in a number of ways, including skits, competitions, field game events, and monetary donations on campus.  To contact our External Philanthropy Chair, please email Eddie Gerow (eddie13@vt.edu)
